What is the Commission on International Initiatives?
The Commission on International Initiatives (CII) engages campus leaders on a wide range of topics, including global research, economic development, and Federal policies related to international students and scholars. CII provides a venue for sharing best practices to foster the development of globally competent students, internationally engaged faculty, and institutions capable of addressing global challenges.
The CII is composed of senior international officers and university leaders from APLU members interested in advancing global engagement efforts. The Commission serves as a home for members to:

Key Ways to Engage with CII
Meetings
CII Summer Meeting
The CII Summer Meeting is the premier event for senior international officers to engage, network, and exchange best practices with peers from other APLU member institutions.
APLU Annual Meeting
The APLU Annual Meeting convenes senior leaders from public and land-grant universities, providing CII members with the opportunity to collaborate and learn from other leaders across an array of senior leadership positions.

Awards
International Impact Award
The APLU International Impact Award recognizes innovative and impactful global engagement efforts at a member institution. The institutional impact of these efforts can be shown through local/global community engagement, global teaching and learning, and/or research.
Malone International Leadership Award
The Malone International Award recognizes a non-practitioner of international programs who works to further international education at public and land-grant institutions.
International Advocacy Coordinating Committee
A subcommittee of CII, IACC members develop and lead the advocacy agenda on Capitol Hill on international issues of interest to public universities. The advocacy priority areas of IACC include education abroad and exchange programs, immigration policy, international higher education and development programs, and Title VI international education.
CII Executive Committee
The CII Executive Committee provides strategy and guidance to APLU on internationalization efforts. Elections are held each September, and Executive Committee members serve three-year terms.
